My memory might be wrong but I think you're supposed to wait until they are 6 months old before getting them fixed. A quick call to your vet would give you a firm answer.

Puppies usually are born without too much intervention. ;) There are lots of resources on the net with information on how to prepare and what to do for the puppies/mom after. Your Vet can also provide lots of information.
