Labranard Profile on Loki
April 13, 2009 in Uncategorized by Labranard Admin
Loki is the son of a massive 230 pound Saint Bernard and a tiny 50 pound yellow Lab. He had four sisters and one brother when we visited him for the first time. His original name was Muscle Bob, which was the name given to him by the children of the house. Upon his entrance to our home he immediately befriended my brother’s 1 year old Black Lab “Chief”. I decided upon the name Loki (the Norse God of mischief) because before owning him for 24 hours he had already stashed a large cache of my belongings under the utility sink in my laundry room.
Now Loki is 5 months old and over 60 pounds and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. His favorite activities involve hogging the bed and sleeping. I love him more than anything and wouldn’t trade him for anything!

do you know where I can find a labranard puppy? Im looking for sometime after July 4th weekend… Do not want to get one until travel is done.. What a great dog.
My family and I would so like to know where to find a great Labranard puppy in CT.
Also, what is the weight range you would guess for a full grown?
And, how much drooling is actually going on with these dogs? Is it like “Hoch” from the movie “Turner and Hooch” or more like just some sloppy kisses? =) Just curious!
Thanks so very much, we look forward to your reply!
Callie, weight range can greatly vary. Of the litter of 9 pups from 2 years ago, they range from 100 pounds to 180 pounds. And I did not have any runts – only one big chunk that is the 180 pounds.
Unless they inherit the St.Bernard slobbering trait, which none of the 9 pups we gave away did, there is very little slobbering – but be prepared to pull back a wet slobbered mess if they actually chew on something, if there is anything left (Harlee ate 2 beds, a coffee table, and about 20 pairs of shoes – never did find some of the shoes). However I think the admin from this site at one time had a posting about the personalities and growing traits of these pups that, at least for me, turned out to be 100% true.
Harlee looks like a very skinny St.Bernard with a half mask on her face, but white body, and then a brown tail. But she has the personality of a lab all the way. LOVES the water, and running!!! Her mom can’t keep up with her anymore. She has been labeled a SUPERLAB several times by strangers. I think it suits her.
When someone figures out how I can get the puppy mentality out of her, though, let me know. She is hyper and always jumping around…drives me crazy.
we have a labranard. libby is now 8 months old and 95 pounds. 32 inches from base to tail and 26 inches at the front shoulder. we feel so blessed to have such an obidient and smart very loving dog. great breed for kids as well.
My little sister found five, what looked like black lab puppies, in our ditch March 16th. The mother was a yellow lab. We put a radio announcement on and the owners came and picked them up and they told us they were an “accident litter” and that the father could either be a st. bernard or a blue heeler. I knew those pups were too big to be a heeler. My boyfriend and I recently adopted one, Rosco. He is only 4 months old and is huge!!! I’m am still uncertain, but we think he is a labranard, yet he is black and his mother was a yellow lab. Any explanation?
Lindsey, St. Bernard – Labrador mixes can end up with all sort of different markings. It all depends on the genetics. In the litter our Roxie came from, there were two black pups that just looked like big labs. The mom was a yellow coloured St. Bernard – Labrador mix and the dad was a yellow lab mix.
Well that’s interesting! He is by far one of the best dogs I’ve owned!!
Years ago we had a Labranard. Grizzly was a cross between a Giant Black Lab and a Saint Bernard. At full growth he weighed 175 pounds.(This weight is not typical of a labranard, he was so huge because his dam was a giant lab, not the average labrador retreiver.) He had the long nose of a lab and the floppy jowls of the Saint Bernard and was a very gentle yet very protective dog. He was black with a single white patch on his chest.
Loki is adorable!! Last pictures were at 5 months – would be interested to see how he navigated the Growth Curve
We were assured our Maddy would not get any bigger, when we took her at 9 months old… “Oh, she hasn’t gotten any taller in 2 months now, I think she’s as big as she’s going to get now”… Famous last words… she’s a Marmaduke with Bernard colouring, but of course we love her anyways.
Would love to see any new pics of Loki, if you have any!
